As others have said Mohonk feels old money summer vacations. It's historic and extremely well maintained but glamor and shiny finishes is not the point. We went to Mohonk regularly when I was a kid and it still remains one of my favorite places. The lake is awesome and there are rock climbing paths

It's an experience few other places can match. Spend time browsing their website and they show plenty of kids. But I do think they'd expect kids to be reasonably well behaved. It's not Atlantis.
