This. Indoor weddings in the summer are fine. Outdoor? Not in this climate or further south, no way.

I absolutely love summer, heat and all. I am skeptical you whiners have friends who invite you places.

If it’s truly formal it will be in the evening. Sandals aren’t going to cut it. It’s either white tie or black. The men will be really uncomfortable, far more than the women.
Ice packs inside the ball gown or waistcoat?

I think many people plan their weddings in the summer because there is less of a chance that the ceremony will be rained out.

That is the only reason I can think of.

I have declined several wedding and birthday party invites if they're taking place outdoors in high summer. If there's no beach/ lake/ pool at your summer party, I'm probably not going.

And I'm sure you're sorely missed. Not.

I went to a beach wedding in June in Florida that was formal, that was horrible! It should have been beachy chic but no the bride wanted formal. She was melting too.

I skip outdoor ceremonies but if the reception is indoors, I’ll show up to that if it’s an easy drive. That way I can skip all the uncomfortable heat and the boring blah blah blah and get to eat a free meal and drink free booze and dance if I feel like it. I leave early, too.

And most people don't have a choice when they get married. I chose the only date available in 1.5 years at my venue. It was a fall wedding though.

You chose to prioritize that venue though. Obviously you could have chosen to get married on a different date at a different place.

I'm not the anti summer weddings OP but this reasoning makes no sense.

I did it. Black tie in July. The only reason we did it was because the venue had air conditioning outside. Of course, it broke and ended up being hot as hell. I'm sorry to the universe!

"Air conditioning outside"?? To keep up with DC summer I can't imagine - no wonder it broke.

Wait is it egotistical to want to be comfortable and to want elderly guests to be able to attend and participate? Usually when decent people host an event they consider the comfort and well being of their guests.

See you there ;)

It’s just awful. Often the AC at the venue can’t keep up and it’s like being in a club but with taffeta stuck to people’s backs. The men are all pink and dripping with sweat.

For the outdoor pictures which they always want, uncle Ken has to try to push grandma through the grass in her wheelchair.

The bride then needs another half hour to unfrizz her hair and fix her makeup. It’s all awful.

I promise you there are a million reasons why people choose to get married on any particular date, and not a one of them gives a darn about your make-up or your outfit

Get married whenever you want but don't require formalwear! Seersucker and sundresses please.
