This. I'm not a huge picture/video taker. A few here and there for ourselves but that's about it. I grew up with parents who documented everythingggggg. We have entire albums dedicated to one trip. My dad would bring his video recorder everywhere. So my mom will ask for pictures/videos constantly when we are on vacation. I'll send maybe 6 a day and am always hit with "that's it?!? Send me more!". And I just want to live in the moment and not be tied to capturing everything.

Yeah this broader context is the issue, not the request itself. I agree with a PP to send whatever you want once a day and then mute the chain. And if the criticism gets too annoying partway thru, it's fine to stop.

Not exactly the same but I've had times I shared pix with my parents of trips, my kids etc and their feedback made me wish I hadn't.

+1, it's really not a big deal or a big lift. On our last family trip, we face timed our nephew for a few minutes and took a video of some wildlife. I think you're overthinking this OP.

Our parents are similar. I don't do much video just because we don't. I do like to take pictures to remember things for myself. I spend 5 minutes each night going through the pictures, choosing about 10 or so and sharing them to our family group chat, with a short explanation if something is unclear.

My parents are demanding but also well intentioned. So, I only send pictures once a day and I mute the chat and don't answer any follow-up questions until the next evening when I do the same thing. If I started responding, my mom would have me miss my trip just responding to trivial questions. Definitely takes me out of the moment!

I don't mind my current process and it does force me to go through my pictures each day as an added bonus.

I photograph a lot when I'm on vacation, but I never film anything.
But if I had housebound parents, and they asked me for videos from my travels, I would be happy to send them some videos.

I'll take a couple pictures and a video or two throughout the day to send to my mom. It takes maybe....5 min out of the day? I guess I don't get the big deal. Don't you want a few pictures for yourself? You don't need to document your entire time somewhere.

I am totally on team "this isn't that hard, find a way to make it work" but I am not going to encourage people to face time more in public, especially at tourist attractions.

Since our grandparents are so well traveled, we enjoyed FaceTiming them while we were out and about. It brought back memories for them, and my kids enjoyed sharing it with them.

And we’ve traveled to some random but very cool places that they’ve enjoyed seeing via FaceTime.

One day in 20-30 years you’ll be the old grandparents who can no longer travel.

Imagine how much you might enjoy staying connected to your kids and grandkids when they travel.

We’ve always called or FaceTimed the grandparents when we vacation, so it’s second nature to my kids. It’s not unusual for one of my kids to proactively FaceTime the grandparents when we are someplace cool. I’m glad my kids will think, “Grandpa would think this is cool—let’s FaceTime him.”

I’m hopeful if I make it to old age that my kids will think of me and do the same. I feel like I’m investing in my kids and myself when I text a pic or FaceTime the grandparents.

It’s so easy and takes so little time to take photos or videos with your phone. It doesn’t need to be posed and curated, just snap some photos and record some stuff as you walk around seeing the sites.

We just got Back from a trip, and we sent a few photos a day the grandparents (by text— took maybe 30 sec), and also had the kids FaceTime with them in the hotel room for a few minutes some evenings if we were back early enough. No big deal at all.

I'm not really seeing the big deal. Do you not take any pictures on vacation? Take a couple each day and send at the end of the day. I don't see how that takes you so "out of the moment."
