Emphasis on the second syllable.

It's Polynesian/Hawaiian in origin but is most popular with central Americans (Nicaraguans, Hondurans) which is why you see it more in Maryland then, say, Illinois.

Aisle gets to that sound because of the silent s. If you remove the S, you'd have "Ale"
