Also look up the laws in your area. For example, in montgomery county, you have to be 14. And for higher powered scooters or ebikes, 16. I had no idea.

Do not get your kid one of these! Not only are they a danger to themselves, they're a danger to people around them. A neighbor's kid was hit while walking to the pool by a scooter and seriously injured. The scooter was going faster than the sidewalk could handle. The sidewalk views were obstructed too because it wasn't meant for high speed. I too have almost hit one and I consider myself an excellent driver. They just dart out in front of cars and often are hidden in bushes on the sidewalks.

A friend works for the state and told me they were debating outlawing these on sidewalks and roads due to the dangers.

Why doesn't your kid have a bike!?

My neighbor (an adult) just got hit by a car while on her scooter while riding in the bike lane. She was out of commission for 3 weeks and is still healing.

IMO bikes are easier to see. I would just buy your kid a bike; they're healthier anyway! It's common now to have the daytime running lights in front and back on bikes so they're even easier to spot.
