What’s the appeal of a cold spaghetti pasta dish at a grocery store that costs $30? The meals all look decent but the prices are bonkers. Once I bought some hot chicken noodle soup at Whole Foods for $22 and didn’t realize how much it was until I rang it up. Never again!

+1 Wondered that also.

I also wondered this. I also wonder about the wegmans food bars. They’re crazy expensive.

If they don’t sell all this food, what happens to it?

It goes onto the dumpster.

Or into meatballs.

We do on occasion. Usually when one of us is shopping there and it’s getting close to dinner time and no one wants to cook. They’re easy and everyone can get what they want.

The prices have gone up a lot recently though, so it is truly only an occasional purchase nowadays.

No. We have a personal chef.

I get their sushi sometimes, but I really can't justify most of their packaged prepared food. Just too expensive.

Wegmans is a pre-made food store that also sells groceries.

The pick your own family meal at WF for $35 is a good deal.

I do, I hate cooking and usually if I do a grocery run I buy something prepared for the first dinner. So then I have to put away the groceries but not really cook that night. To be honest I don’t care about the pricing, but it tends to be less than takeout for us. Maybe I’m just a reckless takeout orderer. Plus I also grab a bag of salad or green beans or something so the plate ends up slightly better off than ordering delivery, or maybe that’s what I tell myself.

Taking kids to a restaurant isn’t fun if they’re tired so that’s not an alternative.

Same also generally is true for the hot food bar at either WF or Balducci's.

If we buy, generally it is only the meat or fish, no side items, because of how it is priced.

Pre-made food is Wegman's big profit center. There are a lot of people buying it or it would not be there.

I buy this too. My teens will eat a chicken breast as an after school snack.

Ages ago I used to date a guy who basically lived off prepared foods from Wegmans and Whole Foods. He wasn’t going to cook for himself and it was a lot healthier than eating a bunch of take out or frozen food.

I get the barbecue chicken sometimes and have it with a bag salad and rolls. It’s an amazing fast meal with nothing to clean, and for 4 people it’s really not that expensive.

Do have to agree with the comments about the prepared Chinese food—gross and more expensive than takeout.

All self-serve food buffets at grocery stores should be required to have scales so that customers can weigh their own food and avoid surprises at checkout. My DD got a small container of macaroni and cheese at Wegman’s buffet that was nearly $15. Crazy.

I’ve wondered this too. Although I do love their pre made sandwiches.

I see a lot of retirees in the prepared foods section. It made sense, as they may not want to cook and have disposable income.
