Nothing wrong with pointing to the one you want and saying "Can I please have that one?" If it were my bakery I'd have given you the two big ones and then sold the two small ones at half price.

Next time you have to be preemptive and say “can I have the two sugar cookies and these two [point at the big ones] chocolate chip cookies?”

I would’ve asked and made some joke about how my four kids would argue if everyone didn’t get the same size cookie. (I do not have four children.)

Yes, to demand bigger cookies seems very rude. Why didn't you just politely ask? Assertiveness doesn't have to abrasive.

I’m particular. I just politely say, may I have [ describe whichever cookie/roast/whatever] and then thank them. It’s easier to do before they start picking things up.

If bringing home cookies for the kids, one kid is going to be pretty annoyed if they get the tiny cookie everyone else gets a large one. Definitely ask for the ones you want next time.
