Yet you have the time to read the OP and post your b1tchy answer. Guess you're not as important as you think.

It’s funny (no pun intended!) but if this happened to me, I would likely feel the exact same way as you do.

Why would you feel stupid? There's no reason to feel that way. We never know how gifts are going to land. Try to focus on the fun you had seeking it out. That's the most important thing. Let it go.

It was a nice thought, OP. But him putting up the office sign is him recognizing the joke the office made about him, which is good-humored and fun. It’s a light-hearted and spontaneous thing. Him putting up your related trinket is sort of like him calling himself that joke, which is dorky. And the fact that his spouse bought it for him just makes it more awkward, labored (instead of spontaneous), and corny.

You’re also inserting yourself into something that doesn’t involve you in the least, and you’re now feeling embarrassed because I think you’re recognizing that.

You have to let it go. Some gifts land perfectly and some are just a miss. And the fact that he took a picture of it on his desk for you shows he was trying not to hurt your feelings. If he has a home office, maybe he can display your trinket on his desk at home. But just chalk it up to a good intention that was a bit of a flop and let it go!

His girlfriend at work (whom you probably met when you visited him) made him throw it away.

At least you correctly feel stupid OP. Awareness is the first step of solving this problem.

He trashed it after he sent a picture of it OP. You aren’t a part of his office life and so should never have been part of the joke in the first place. Plus you wasted family money on something stupid.

Let it go. If you can't let it go, you have a problem.

Here's the thing - the original sign came from his office, so it makes sense. the new one? What is going to say, his wife gave it to him? It sounds childish. He appreciated your gesture and he sounds quite sweet. But let it go.

Only someone with no job or hobby of their own would worry about this.

I think OP is being ridiculous, but DH used to love it when DS was little and I would take him to DH's office to say hi or go out for lunch if we were in the area
