We need to pull people back from the edges of both sides and get them to actually think.

Right now, a lot of people are acting like the adults in The Emperor's New Clothes. Everyone sees the same thing, but they're so caught up in what they're supposed to believe or say that nobody wants to point it out. The truth isn't always complicated. Sometimes it's as obvious as it was in that story—it just takes someone willing to say what the child said and call it for what it is.

They're nestled in at Claremont McKenna, Baylor, Hillsdale, University of Austin, a few at Stanford, BYU. They tend to be very prominent in law school, because like religion, law is a made up practice with a ton of circular reasoning that can justify cruelty.

This X1000. There actually ARE and have been many conservative professors now. After all they are predominantly boomer aged white males. They aren’t MAGA though and Trump/Miller are a greater threat to their conservative ideology than any liberal.

That's my issue. The conservatives with serious research and background mostly already work for the top schools. Brooks is working at Yale and has had previous work at Uchicago. Shields, who wrote the article OP linked, is a full Professor at Claremont McKenna College. What more do these conservatives want?

It is, in fact, not implicit. First, I don't think the "viewpoint diversity" crowd is operating in that much good faith. Second, I am a social scientist, and I don't think that just because someone is in a field related to...society in any way...it's necessary or responsible for them to share their political views. We deal in data.

Many social scientists don't: anthropologists, qualitative sociology, ethnic studies... Asian American studies is a deeply political subject, for example, and many in that field find the subject itself is a political project to inform students on how to build their notion of a better future.

Not all Catholics are conservative. Not all Catholic priests or scholars are conservative. And not all Catholic or Christian scholars are even in fields where they would ever need to reveal their political views to students.
