Ocean City area but ONLY in off season, like February.

I did not find Deep Creek all that great.

Agree on Lewes, Eastern Shore, Chesapeake Hyatt (hotel has declined, but Cambridge itself is improving--RAR not only great brewery, but fun restaurant now).

What about close PA locations? Falling water and other Wright sites in surrounding area are great; Hershey is interesting even if you don't go to the park though it probably is a destination that makes more sense w/ kids!

Unless you have young children I'd skip the Hyatt in Cambridge. I've stayed there many times and I'd call it a low 3 star.

Harpers Ferry is our go-to for a quick day trip, especially in the fall. If we have a full weekend we usually head to the Shenandoah Valley area, there are some really charming small towns along Route 11. Also love doing a random night at a B&B in Middleburg, feels like you're hours away but it's barely 45 min.

Agree with St Michaels or Lewes. We have friends in both places and even going over for the day or an overnight is a nice escape.

Sorry, there's nothing really closer than NY or maybe NC/SC.

Lewes DE, an 18th century fishing village, is on the bay rather than ocean. Easy ferry to Cape May to see Victorians and bike around. Lewes has a great biking trail and access to Rehoboth. Lots of decent restaurants, a great Farmers Market on Saturdays etc.
