All of this. And my toe are cold just thinking about being uncovered on the plane.

NP. I wear closed toed flats on airplanes. I can't imagine wearing lace up shoes on planes (most of our flights are 8 hours + though). I wear thick socks to stay warm.

On 99% of my vacations I either have flats or sandals. I only bring sneakers if we're doing something athletic or hiking (in which case I'd bring hiking boots).

Why are you all saying tennis shoes in the rain? I wear sandals in the rain so that my tennis shoes and socks aren't soaked. I have quick dry sandals. My favorites are croc kaydee thong sandals. I'm not a fan of any other sort of crocs, but I LOVE those sandals. I started wearing them for plantar fasciitis while pregnant and never stopped.

+1

But if OP doesn't play on wearing them then don't bother bringing them. OP knows themselves best.

Why ask then?

Because, if i have learned anything from these boards, people are incompetent and can't make decisions.

I wear hiking sandals to get the closed toe.

OK but that's not what OP was asking about.

I’ve done socks with birks before as my airplane footwear. Not bad.

I have never regretted bringing sneakers on vacation but I have regretted not bringing them. So I’ve learned to wear them on the plane, and in my carry on backpack I leave a little room + a pair of sandals if I want to swap when we arrive at our warm-weather destination.

I’d wear them on the plane for the many reasons already mentioned. Then I’d either not worry about souvenirs (personally I don’t usually buy any on just a beach resort vacation anyway) and/or pare down to only one dress sandal.

it's so bizarre to me that you thought to crowd source this. Do you normally have difficulty making basic decisions?

What exactly is the problem with this? Do you think you’ll get sick? When you’re in a train or bus, you’re breathing the same air others have just exhaled. When you’re in a pool, you’re swimming with other people’s dead skin, skin oil, and worse.

I always bring some kind of sneaker. But I will wear them instead of sandals if we're doing something with a lot of walking like a long shopping day or up and down the boardwalk. I would also make sure your not planning anything that requires closed toed shoes. We were on a cruise once and got invited to a sail away party on the bow of the ship but it required closed toe shoes. There was a lady there wearing her husband's dress shoes! Guess she didn't want to miss out on the free champagne!

Some boating excursions might mandate more than sandals (wanting nonslip to avoid injury) so I’d check that. Unlikely to matter but thought it worth flagging.
