Carmel is now so busy and completely taken over by day trippers from the valley. I blame instagram for the tourist trap vibe.

I would go to pebble beach and pacific grove and Carmel valley. Stay at Bernardus or Carmel valley ranch. Beautiful.

Having just returned from Carmel on Tuesday, let me warn you. It is an overrun sh*thole filled with obnoxious Indian programmers. It is 100% different than it was even a decade ago.

I'd go down to Cayucas where the soul of Big Sur is still alive and well.

I have never had a good experience in Carmel going back decades. Always unfriendly, snotty, old-person-oriented, and expensive.

It’s a beautiful town, in a super beautiful location, but really wasn’t for me. Carmel just has a different vibe. I do love the area- especially Big Sur. Used to have family in Monterey and visited often.

What???

What part do you not understand? SF is full of programmers from India making 7 figures.

I understood all of it. The "What???" was more of a "What? Are you really typing out this ugly racism/xenophobia?" I suppose the answer to that is: Yes. Gosh, this site gets ugly. Innocent question about travel in the Big Sur area and someone feels the need to unleash some hate.

Maybe they were just surprised at the overt racism?

Recognizing one's nationality is now overt racism? Do you need a special blankie? Are your fee fees hurting?

Tree Bones is a nice spot. Lodging is fine but the omakase is great — intimate and delicious.
