When I was full time in the office I went every 6-8 weeks. Now I'm seeing how long I can go (last cut in January). Honestly if my hair weren't wavy ie I can just put some curl product in or long enough to put in a ponytail no way I could go this long while having to look "presentable". My hair is now past my shoulder and only ever had some thinning out layers but to me it looks so scraggly when I go more than 6-8 weeks.

Part of this may also be that I grew up with a mom who had standing weekly hair apt and her views/comments on my hair still live rent free in my head 30 years after her death.

I have spent thousands of $$ on my hair so I say no. If it makes you happy go for it.

Me too, it would drive me nuts to go as often as that spending the money and the time. But OP’s hair probably looks way better than mine.

I have hair down below my bra strap, and my daughter has even longer hair. We don't notice a few months' worth of growth.

This. For short hair, every 2-3 months is fine.

Mine is just below the shoulder and it’s very thick and wavy. I’ve been getting my hair colored every 4 weeks and cut every 12. I feel like if I weren’t spending so much money at the salon, I’d definitely cut it every 8 weeks. My hair feels really heavy and unmanageable by the 12 week mark.

I get my hair cut and the roots colored every 6 weeks. It's medium long, but going 12 weeks between cuts is too long for me. Theren's othing "wrong" with frequent cuts!

I have a bad habit of getting my hair cut shorter than I meant to growing it way, way too long and getting sick of it, chopping it short after about a year, and repeating.

I would not recommend this. I know I should get my hair cut more often but I get lazy about it.

It just depends on your own preferences, OP. I cut my own hair maybe 2-3 times/ year, when I can't stand how long it is.

I get my hair cut maybe twice a year. I think every two months is too much money-wise. And of course a hair stylist will never tell you that because they want your business.

But you have layers, and when they grow out, especially the face framing ones, it does impact the visuals, which you might be noticing unconsciously and interpreting as "feeling too heavy". Face frames need regular upkeep, that's for sure.

Yeah, but every 8-9 weeks?

NP, face framing layers probably need a trim every 6 weeks. In 8-9 weeks, they are “framing” a different part of your face assuming they haven’t grown past that.

I have a chin length bob and go every 7-8 weeks. My haircuts are so expensive I am thinking of growing it out some!

But my tip would be-
Ask your stylist if there are things that could be slight modifications that would let you go longer between cuts and also put a little extra effort in those later weeks. Sometimes i feel like mine is hopeless, but if I add a different product or spend an extra 5 minutes (make an extra effort), it looks better.

I have def seen a difference in how cuts grow up between stylists. I had switched to one who was closer to home and my hair looks amazing right after a trim, but only for maybe 3 weeks! I went back to my previous stylist and could go more like 12 (my hair was below shoulders then).

I go every ten weeks so close. It's fine.

I got every 8-10 weeks, sometimes every three months. I wait until it's getting hard to comb through the split ends. I color and highlight my hair at home myself, so I just go on feel as far as the cut. In the summer, I'm wearing a pony tail much of the time so it can go a bit longer.

Who cares if it's psychosomatic? Enjoy.
