I had the great pleasure of meeting someone that I fell in love with when I was much younger. I considered him to be the love of my life. Now, decades later, I have fallen in love with someone else. I am still married to DH who now feels like a brother and best friend to me. I still love him but it is different. Our marriage is sexless and likely will never be anything else. I don’t want to hurt my first love…but I am not clear how to keep living with him and loving him as a brother while now being in love with someone else. What to do?


The lack of reasonable, empathetic awareness in this sub is amazing. This troll provides an excellent example of this issue.

Not once does she even hint that her DH might feel the exact same way as she does (i.e., he does not love her and would be happier with someone else).

PP - Please have the good manners to at least pretend that you are not the greatest thing that has or ever will happen to him. If he was a "great pleasure" once, he likely can be again to someone worthy of him.

I’m another poster whose husband has largely lost interest in sex and appreciate that you apologized.

And it is not so easy to divorce someone when you love them and are still attracted to them. I’d rather have rare sex with my husband than frequent sex with someone else!

What you need to understand is that this is just you missing the romance and yearning of first love. You're allowed to miss it, and have your feelings. You're allowed to fantasize and maybe flirt a little. But you can't cross the line, unless you divorce, or they're both fine with a polyamory relationship.
