I don’t think it’s about who “lobbied” although certainly teachers have represented a dire need for early release/more workdays which add to the bad schedule.

The question is, who can contribute to the solution. Teachers can contribute by advocating to move workday to the beginning and end of the year, and recognizing the early release has been a bad policy. There’s no having your cake and eating it too if you don’t want to start in the middle of August and end at the end of June, you’re going to have to put some skin in the game and work to improve things as well.

You don’t think teachers have skin in the game? They are parents, too.

I’m scoffing at your suggesting that teachers aren’t already sacrificing tons for their jobs.

If you want to be upset about things you made up I certainly won’t try to stop you.

Teacher here. You can’t have all of the TWD be at beginning/end of the year. We need the time to grade/plan during the year. That being said, we have too many days off. I am pretty sure if you put a bunch of actual educators in a room they could create a much better calendar.

You can get TWD days on other holidays then— what you cannot have is eleven teacher workdays, monthly early release, and all the other holidays, there is simply not enough time in the calendar.

Take back your school district. Do we really need a five day Memorial Day weekend break, just so we can have meaningless days of school in June?

FCPS doesn't care what parents think.

We all need to speak up!

This year was an utter mess and nothing seems to be done about it.

More than one thing can be true at a time. If the teachers advocate for sensible schedules they will be heard.

With all due respect— please take your own advice. This calendar is being done for teachers (or at least being billed as being done for teachers). Tell your leadership you don’t support early release, that you don’t need 11 workdays in the academic year, and things may rationalize.

Half of the schools had their early release on the 13th. The other half has it tomorrow.
