I lived in a different part of the country but it was my first concert too. And I forgot, I also saw the Bangles with my aunt and uncle! Both of these were great memories.

My parents took us to stuff like folk festivals when I was a kid. I convinced them to see a couple musicals as well.

My parents let me go see some smaller bands on my own starting when I was 16.

I went to so many concerts as a kid starting when I was about 12. My parents drove us to a few but no way would they attend. That would have really killed the fun if they did for my father especially did not approve of Rock n Roll. He just didn't get it.

With my own kids, I've gone to many concerts with them and we had a great time.

No. My parents never went to concerts that I can remember. I went to see the Monkees with a friend and her mom.

I took my mom to see Brian Wilson a couple of times.

My friends and I were always chaperoned in elementary school and maybe early middle school (and in those days the concerts were Backstreet Boys, Nysnc, Aaron Carter, so I’m sure our parents would have rather been at home 🤣). As we got older we typically just went with friends but sometimes we’d go with our parents to see bands they liked.

I must be two years older than you. I remember feeling a surge of jealousy the day after her Vogue concert where so many kids showed up in 7th grade in that T-shirt.

Older Gen X and never went to concerts or really did anything similar with my parents. They were busy working and providing for their five children and were definitely not like today's parents.

When I read the title of the post, I assumed you mean orchestra/symphony/chamber concerts. Of course I did, and I took my kids. My 19, 20, and 22 yo still love to go to the symphony.
Rock concerts? No thanks.

Gen Xer here. Not in a million years. Also, my parents were busy working and being parents in the sixties, so they completely missed out on the music of the time. What a waste.

I have gone to concerts with my teens. I think we have closer relationships with our kids these days than our parents did with us. There is less of a strict line between being a kid and a grown up. Maybe because mentally, most of us haven’t really grown up!

Nope. There would be older people at shows, but concerts (and the parking lot parties before them) were not family events back then.

Op here—sounds like people did go to concerts with their parents back then! And it sounds like those who did have positive memories of those experiences, which is nice
