When DD25 was young there was a party salon for little girls- hair, nails, makeup. Maybe OP saw some girls enjoying something like that.

Anyway we don’t live there anymore. It’s 90 minutes to a very good mall, but nothing like Tyson’s. I’m really close to lots of high end shops but I miss the damn mall. The people watching, the functional department stores with good service and cafés, the random fun stores. Trying things on and having them tailored in store. IDK, I guess if you don’t like the mall don’t go. I miss it.

I get exactly the right visual.

Tysons was so much fun! There were people of all age groups there walking around. It was like the 80s all over again. Loved it!

As long as folks aren’t brawling or shoplifting I say live and let live!

In my hometown, there is a huge, abandoned mall. It had three “anchor” department stores, multiple large restaurants…it was huge. Now it’s completely empty, crumbling, and the location of a lot of encampments, crime, and drug deals.

I would give anything for that big complex to once again be a place where:
1) Older adults could walk to stay healthy, strong and connected to one another
2) People could try on clothes, which cuts down on the environmental footprint of shipping and returns
3) People could have jobs, from makeup counters to jewelry stores to bookstores to coffee shops to restaurants to eyeglass shops
4) Creative spaces like art galleries, Paws at the Mall (ASPCA in the Annapolis Mall), kid-friendly museums and interactive exhibits could exist
5) Teens and tweens could hang out in a relatively safe environment, if they are responsible and can stay connected to family through their cells

Etc., etc., etc.

With people like OP, you can’t win. She’ll complain about “welfare people with no jobs” (then sneers at mall jobs); she’ll complain that “kids are always on the phone and don’t have real life friends” (then complain if they’re a little loud or clueless when they walk around); kids are inactive (then complains when they walk around with friends and—dare to exist, what with fashion choices and all); GAS PRICES OMG (never mind that people are saving gas and environmental footprint by trying on and buying in person).

Shut up, OP.

It’s a beautiful day but there’s a whole contingent of people who can’t figure out what to do but take the whole family to walk around the mall.

Stay away from Mosaic too, OP. I have a teen who likes hang out at Tyson’s and Mosaic if the weather is nice since they can shop outside. I went there today to drop them off and the traffic was just horrific, every bit as bad as the mall. I tried to park to go to Target and couldn’t get a spot in the garage.

So. Many. People.

I was also at Tysons today and saw one 9 year old TOPS, maybe 8 yo, with full on makeup and nails and a miniskirt. I could care less but I did have a doubletake for a moment.

Just went and had a fantastic time. It was awesome to see so many out and enjoying a beautiful mall. Loved every minute! Tysons is thriving.

If folks are concerned about money right now (with gas prices what they are) you’d never know it by how many people were out shopping.

And don’t get me started on the 10 year old girls I saw in full faces of makeup, acrylic nails, and highlighted hair…

This is why I default to shopping online and end up returning half the stuff I buy. It’s not good.

Does anyone really enjoy just going to the mall (especially when the weather is so nice?!?!).

End rant…

How about you take your misogyny and judgment of "10 year old girls" elsewhere?

How about you just stick to your "default" if being out in public is going to rile you up this much?

How about you not get so worked up about a simple statement.

You think misogynistic creeping and judging on 10 year old girls is a "simple statement"? Ok. Lol. Whatever you say.

I work in an ES and I agree with OP!

Go to Tysons Galleria. That place is a ghost town. I have no idea how those stores stay in business.

I go to Tysons at least once a week - lunch at Nordstrom cafe, shopping around, etc. I am from the 90s mall hangout era so maybe thats why I still like it.
