We just finally crossed the line where there are more poor kids in the county than rich kids. It was going to happen eventually. Everything else stems from that.

The entire country is very different than it was 30 years ago. You must be very priviledged not to have noticed.

It could be Jack Smith, who really shook up the district and then bolted to retirement when the pandemic proved too problematic for our community.

It could be Monifa McKnight, who hired, promoted and protected her friends, which led to a horrible black eye on the once proud district.

It could be the board for naming Monique Felder interim superintendent, who was in over her head, and allowed the narcissists in executive leadership to drive the system, indifferent to results.

It could be Peter Moran, who has been promoted through each regime, and whose rise to prominence directly correlates to MCPS’s deflation to where we are now.

It cpukd be Christine Handy, who has overseen the administration union that has seen 80% of administrators flee the district under her leadership.

Who else shares a piece of the responsibility pie that oversaw the demise of this once great and proud school system?

You and your fellow crazy parents

Parents don’t make the decisions.

Yup. Which was a Jerry Weast initiative continued by Josh Starr.

Really? I thought that was a Josh Starr-initiated effort.

Weast after Pearson sent him and his wife to an all expense paid two week trip to Australia.

You lose credibility when you post repeatedly, crying wolf. The majority of MCPS parents are not on DCUM, and are fine with MCPS. It's free with taxes, after all.

I know every time a thread is posted bashing MCPS, a lot posters love to jump on the bandwagon, but the reality is that this is usual for anonymous message boards. They create echo chambers.

Of course MCPS has systemic problems. But
stop saying "it's failing".

I have young adults and teens now, but when they were preschoolers, someone was already screaming on MCPS that it was failing and in a critical situation. And yet, MCPS managed to educate my kids, deal with the IEP of one kid, and send the other to a magnet. Not bad for a system on its deathbed for the past 20 years.

Glad your student with an IEP received services. Taylor is cutting SPED support this coming year. As for the magnet education that your other child received, well, that is being downsized 40% and its curriculum offerings will be decreased. Teachers will leave because the program is weakened. So, while you enjoyed the benefits of MCPS in its better days, know that this is not what families today will be receiving.

He’s destroyed many things. We tried to warn you when he walked in and shut down the virtual school, early education and more. You didn’t care till it impacted your kids.

Maybe if they were better than 11-8 the AD wouldn't be so eager to see them lose. The longest seasons are the ones in which your team is trash.

The fact that this post omits Taylor makes me think that it was posted by someone from team Taylor to try to shift the blame that all these people are in danger of losing their jobs.

Taylor, Moran and Handy are responsible for this mess.

I have two children in schools that have recently experienced threats/violence. I have a child with an IEP. Both of my children are gifted.

Are there things I'd nitpick? sure. Has our experience overall been very good? yes. Great teachers, supportive admin, special education support. I'd appreciate more acceleration but we have gotten some and I recognize the limits of what can be done within schools. Overall, we're very happy.
