Why does your daughter want to stay with you?

Does your daughter behave correctly in your home, ie, is reasonably polite to everyone living in the house, does a few chores, cleans up her mess and avoid perturbing other people's life, like not coming home at midnight and making a racket?

I am guessing this is a stepmom and dad doesn't parent her or do any work, historically. She's probably messy and does no chores and SM has to clean up after her and SD is probably rude to her. Dad thinks she's a little angel who causes no trouble but Dad doesn't actually help take care for her or clean up after her.

+1000. Unless your DD being in your home presents some sort of a safety issue similar to what PP mentions, a college-aged kid absolutely should be able to live at home during summer and other school breaks. Why is this even a question, OP?

You still haven't described the situation, OP! How maddening.

Has your daughter been living with you all this while? And she's going to college in August, and presumably has much to prepare? Is your wife a recent acquisition? Where does she suggest her step-daughter go before moving to college? How is the relationship between these two women?

If you want advice, you're going to have to cough up a bit more info, bucko.

I say this as a stepmother: of COURSE your daughter stays with you. It is her home. If your wife has a problem with that, she doesn’t have to be your wife. But your daughter is always your daughter and she is not even in college yet!
