I am a big believer in the more the merrier, especially if you like them. As long as you are clear . Like “ well if you guys come, the kids will need to sleep on the front porch, so it will be tight. If they can handle that and it is cool with everyone then let’s do it.

If feel like by doing that you are making it clear exactly what they are asking for and they will probably say “oh no forget it we’ll get a hotel” etc

If you and these parents are friends, or at least hang out socially. I think that’s fine to ask.

Otherwise it’s quite crazy and I don’t think you need to worry about being the rude one lol.

I would wonder if they don't trust their kid, or your kid, or one of the other kids. You don't have to let them stay in your house, but this information can be a gift to you if you're willing to hear it.

The kid asked my son if parents could come. I don’t know this child or the parents at all. I have never met them.

So as expected...an overreaction. These parents didn't openly ask out loud like some suggested. The kid asked if parents could come. He asked. You said No. End. No issues. We don't even know if the parents asked the their kid to ask. Maybe it was like...Little Johnny says, " Mom, can I got to Joey's beach house next weekend?" Mom says, "Sure. I wish I wish I was going to the beach." Chuckles. Johnny wondewres and asks Joey, "Joey, are parents invited?" Did it happen like this? Who knows? Doubt it. By why jump to the conclusion that Johnny's parents made a huge spectacle and put Joey's parents on the spot?

The only way I could see this happening is if you were all at some kind of parent happy hour “Invite me to your beach house!” Then the other person would promise an invite, then it would never be spoken of again.

My kid has a close group of 5 friends. Then he is in a larger group of 20 kids. I don’t know everyone in this group of 20. The kids are ages 16-18.

You may want to do that, but it's an another thing to voice it out loud to the hosts, fishing for an invite.

Different poster. Disagree. Those parents were incredibly rude. Instead of expressing gratitude for their kid getting a free trip, they tried to freeload for themselves.

OP, are you sure they didn't say,

"hey, can you handle all that? we can come and help chaperone if that would make things easier. just let us know!"

that's ok.

saying, "We'd love to join, can we?" Is kinda rude.

Anyway, just at regretful and tell them there is no room.
