This dress looks too formal for a regular graduation OP, unless they is a cocktail party afterwards. I would try the same style in a more casual fabric.

Otherwise, just wear a pair of gray pearl earrings.

More modern? What planet do you live on? That's a grandma dress.

It's an unfortunate frock, designed to conceal batwings.

I like OPs dress, but it’s for a cocktail party, not a graduation. Maybe OP is wearing it to a different event to celebrate the graduation and not the ceremony?

The other dress suggested is frumpy and looks cheap.

You have no idea what OP's skin color is. Not everyone is a sickly pasty white like you.

The fabric looks very heavy. I would pass.

It’s too formal for a graduation. The fabric itself makes it hard to dress down, although you could try by going with very neutral and minimalist accessories.

What kind of graduation is this?

I would go with the dress code of the speakers which is usually business attire - or business casual.
A graduation is not really a ladies luncheon.

You think OP's choice is geriatric and not this monstrosity?

I think they’re both hideous and geriatric but I was trying to suggest something similar to what OP originally shared that isn’t brocade.

Well, maybe OP’s “child” is graduating from a senior citizen class.

People, the "age" of the dress is not the question. The brocade looks nice, the other one has a really awkward design, but one that has been seen in haute couture shows in the recent past (personally I hate it). Both are polyester, so both are cheap fabrics anyway!

Simple aquamarine or pearl earrings. That’s it!
It’s a lovely dress.

It's looks frumpy, matronly, and made of cheap fabric. Nothing good about it.
