This is an interesting thread for me as my cardiologist just prescribed Zepbound for me. I am starting next week. I have a history of heart related issues and I am 51, male.

I'm looking forward to seeing the benefits both from a weight loss standpoint, but also the other benefits as well. I have realized that I can't drink any longer and have made that commitment. If it helps with that, great!

Also, I know that I snore and if I get any benefit there as well, great!

There are sooo many benefits. Im much more calm. My sleep is improved. I have a lot less brain fog. My ankles and fingers/wrist dont swell and dont hurt anymore in the morning. My period is less annoying. My pre-period migraine doesnt happen anymore. I had to get off of it while I was pregnant but before I got pregnant my cholesterol (family genetic issues) dropped to sub 200 and my triglycerides were <40. My BP has always been good but its 100/70 average now.

My husband has an autoimmune condition plus high blood pressure- partly genetic partly due to the medication he takes for his autoimmune condition- and I want him to ask his PCP about trialing it to see if it helps his BP. His mom has dementia onset <60 due to uncontrolled BP, thyroidectomy without proper supplementation, and generally poor health plus at least one stroke prior to 55. They are now calling dementia a disease of middle age. It comes from middle age health issues and manifests in later years.

There was a great Ezra Klein podcast on this a few weeks ago. GLP1 research is showing that even without weight loss they can reduce cardiac risk and alzheimer's and dementia.

There is some research being done showing microdosing (too small for weight loss) has a benefits for many autoimmune disorders and diseases.

It's definitely helping lose the desire to drink.

I exercise far more than recommended, have zero signs of even pre-diabetes, great cholesterol... but I have high blood pressure. They didn't tie that to my weight, believing there are other things going on with it (another post!), and suggested GLP1, because they both said that GLP1s controlled high blood pressure better than the BP medicine they would ordinarily prescribe... both said that this was strictly based on their own experience with their own patients, so making it clear it's not been studied or approved for use on BP, but they said to expect a fairly dramatic drop in my BP even before any weightloss, and then weight loss would likely lower it even further.

And that's exactly what happened—within days of taking my first dose, weeks and weeks before nay weight loss, my BP dropped out of hypertension range and has continued to inch down. They thought that, eventually, my weight would cause enough health issues to require addressing (mainly on my joints), and so are happy to have me losing weight, but it was the BP that it was most useful for.

Separately, there are early studies that show GLP1s, for reasons not entirely clear, seem to target the fat in your neck which causes apnea, meaning that even before you experience large weight loss that would typically be associated with controlling apnea, the GLP1s can do it. And that's exactly what I found... after only the first five or six pounds of weight loss my (albeit fairly mild) apnea seems to have gone away.

It's crazy...

The point of all this is that there are lots of health-related reasons for GLP1s, and it's definitely not just for people who are vain and buying into society's body image BS.

What a weird post, telling people things they already know.

Except not all do. A responder said:
You don't understand apnea very well and people who talk about their apnea going away are usually wrong.

I don't understand how the glps help with apnea. I've had it for decades and have lost significant weight but my apnea seems to have gotten worse post menopause.

GLP1s are clinically used for apnea treatment and this person did not know that.

Nope. Based on past posts, there are a lot of people in this forum who believe that GLP-1 is bad for your health like Fen-Phen.

There are a lot of people who think it’s just for fatties or vain people who don’t want to go to the gym. I love the gym, it helps me go more.
