Should this be inferred that JR is worse than MacArthur? Should we move IB for BCC?

Well a kid brought a loaded gun to Whitman this week so I don't think moco is necessarily safer.

Moco, esp BCC and Whitman corridor is definately safer. The school are much, much better too.

I would move there if JR, MA or Moco are your choices. I say this as a DC parent.

A kid was beaten outside wooton today and had an open head wound. There are bad teens everywhere

Holy sh*t.

The W’s are worse than anything in DC.

Not to factor in the intense racism that Asians (who are the majority) in the W schools have towards Blacks and Latinos. Just google Wootton - it's horrible.

Does MacArthur still feel like a small school these days? Or not so anymore now that enrollment is up.

Unfortunately, many people working in schools after COVID-19 don't have education degrees, and if we as parents don't do anything, this is going to worsen.

What??? That is crazy. The school absolutely should send communication to families about it and the steps they are taking in response to this issue.

How is this not normal protocol? Why don’t families demand it?

So is there anything to be done about this? Or do armed robberies and shooting constitute “kids being kids?”

“Give me your lunch money or I’ll punch you” is both a robbery and pretty classic “bully” behavior so some of it is kids being kids. Weapons are obviously worse, and guns are obviously more dangerous and deadly. But some of it is pretty typical kid behavior.

Normally developing teens do antisocial things and the test of whether you’re normal or have a psych disorder is whether you grow out of it. Peer group norms matter a lot to teens though, and trying to influence those group norms is part of the job of well-run schools.

Got it, violent gun crime is normal and healthy behavior, thanks.

It was not worded well but I do understand what the poster is saying. There should be zero tolerance but these types of behaviors happen through all school systems at this age. It is not a MoCo vs. DC thing. When a weapon is involved, there should be zero tolerance. ZERO. That should be absolutely emphasized to admin.

They are NOT much much safer and I say this as a 'W' zoned MoCo parent.

This also happened at Wootton - a kid shot in the stomach.
