They surprise me too in the opposite way. Are the people staying at practice the same people who still choose to stay as a drop-off birthday party at age 10?

I’m the PP and I dropped off at parties starting in K unless parent specified no drop off (like trampoline park etc they sometimes want parents to stay until 3rd or so). Maybe because my kids play rec sports only, so the teams have plenty of goofballs etc on them and I don’t want to leave some poor volunteer coach with a team of 10 seven year old soccer players who are rhnning around misbehaving for an hour? I do seem to see travel sport parents drop off much earlier. But those kids are more motivated and serious, and the coaches are paid and have assistants

At what age did you start loading the car up with baskets of clean laundry to fold while you watch a movie in the car in the parking lot of the evnt? I dreamed of doing this but never did.

I stopped staying when they lasted more than an hour. It also depended on how long the drive was from home. It did not depend on the age of the kid.

And its actually in our rules that you cant drop off and need to be present. Want to walk around the park- sure! Work in your car- great!

Need to take a quick trip to go pick up your other kid, let me know and I need a contact for you. Otherwise, get comfortable.

Does not apply to kids over the age of 9/10. But a 5 year old? GFY.

You sound unhinged. Not a great temperament to be volunteering with little kids. Maybe give it a rest and look into therapy or anger management?

Anonymous wrote:For reference my child is doing a sport this season. This is for 5-6 year olds. My child told me after the first practice that another kid, let’s call him Tim, said that his parents left during practice to go home.
This seemed so not okay to me so during the first game that week and subsequent practice, I looked out for Tim’s parents. Sure enough, Dad walked him up, stuck around for a minute or two, then left and came back towards the end of the game/practice.

I brought it up to the coach to see if they knew (my kids been playing with this group of kids for over a year now, so we’re friendly). Coach had no idea and said Tim’s parents did not tell him they were gonna do this.

Coach said he’d handle it.
Seems pretty insane to me to leave a 5 yo alone at practice/game for almost an hour, especially when you don’t know the coach or any other parents.

So you’re saying the Dad dropped him off on time and then… picked him up on time?! How scandalous!!

Too young and also nuts to leave without informing the coach.

I stopped staying for volunteer run sports programs in third grade. Professionally run programs have different setups and expectations, so I follow whatever is encouraged there.

My kid prefers that I not be there, so I err on that side at this point.

I was a volunteer social worker for SA victims. I have seen too many school kids who were raped. There was a school staff in my DD's HS who was sleeping with an underage minor. I knew kids who were turning tricks.

So, nope. Not happening. I didn't leave my kids with anyone but my parents and DH's sister.

Teen with a phone at a public place, I'm ok with but not before 13 or so and we are very careful in other situations.

depends on the site. You can stay in the building or outside. I stopped at maybe 13? No way 7. Too young.

Until my kid was about 11, I'd only leave if another parent "had" my kid. One one kid's team, parents were all very friendly with each other and would watch each others' kids so we could run to the grocery store, take a sibling to practice, whatever. But someone would have responsibiity other than the coaches.
