Wow. I personally appreciate OP's positivity. There is so much negativity and grim news in the world today that someone being happy to enjoy their garden and dress makes me happy. And in fact, I am enjoying my roses and this awesome weather today as well! Though I am wearing grubby gardening clothes and not a pretty dress.

Then be prepared for the fact that a lot of people will be having a nice day, even an absurdly happy one. If you are too sensitive for that, move along.

What did urgent care diagnose?

"How's your Mother's Day going?" It's a throw-away line. They want it known that they know what day it is and they know you are a mother. So they should probably ask. Kind of like, "good morning" or "beautiful day, isn't it?"

It's good, just like most Sundays. I dropped my youngest off at work. Now I'm cleaning my kitchen, and then my oldest is taking me out to lunch. When I get home, I'll do some more stuff around the house, then make red beans and rice for dinner. After dinner, I'm going to sit on my deck and have a glass or two of red wine.

Both kids wished me a happy Mother's Day today. My youngest son got me a cookbook for Mother's Day, so he'll probably give that to me when he gets home from work.

My son called me early this morning from college to chat. We talked about all sorts of things and he didn't mention Mothers Day at all. He called back later apologizing for having forgotten it was Mothers Day. It actually felt great that he called just to connect without even knowing the day.

So far, so good!

We officially celebrated yesterday because my youngest graduated from college (don't get me started on Elizabethtown College's terrible decision to have the graduation outside in the pouring rain with no tents)and it was my husband's birthday, so we rolled Mother's Day in there, too. My sons and their significant others, my MIL, and my husband's aunt all came over after the graduation and we had catered food. It was great!

My mother hasn't spoken to me since July, 2024 (she's done this since I was a small child, sometimes for years on end, and to nearly everyone in the family at one time or another), so I have no idea what she's up to today. I wish her well, but am glad she'll be somewhere else. I'm an only child, so she's got no one else to celebrate her. Fortunately for her, I raised 3 sons who will remember her today and reach out.

My most favorite part of yesterday was the card my DIL gave me that thanked me for welcoming her into the family and said that I'm like a second mom to her. After not having a great maternal example, I'm beyond grateful to have broken the cycle and have built awesome relationships with my DIL and DIL-to-be.
