I had mold in dorms in Philadelphia in the 90a and we referred tot he cockroaches as baby armadillos. Not a new or only a southern issue.

FWIW- we had a dehumidifier in DS’s SEC room, closet, and bathroom. And, for anyone who has college age kids with dehumidifiers, send multiple reminders that these need to be emptied very often!!

There should be a mold discount at these schools.

Live in old Moldy and get 50% housing reduction rate!

Mold issue at one of kids’ top northeast private; no issues at other kid’s SEC school, where dorms are really nice and pretty new.

This isn’t a Southern issue - it’s a build issue.

There’s also mold up North. Older dorms is the problem.

I don’t think this is a southern issue. There are shitty dorms everywhere. Right in this area people complain about dorms at Georgetown and Maryland. I’m pretty sure dorms at Vanderbilt, Duke, Rice, Emory, Georgia Tech, Denison and so on are all perfectly fine.

It’s a question of which schools invest in infrastructure and maintenance. And which don’t.
