Contrary to what many think, but most restaurants aren't swimming in profits and margins are razor thin.
It does seem like there is heavy tip inflation and you're correct, that a more expensive meal, doesn't mean the server is working harder. We already eat out less. I do like eating out and not having to prep, cook and clean sometimes, but restaurants are really overpriced and the food often isn't that great. With a little effort, it's not hard to make a good meal at home, for a fraction of the price of eating out.
