I currently out earn my husband, although I haven't always. We equally prioritize each other's careers, which means we both have to make sacrifices and also push back on our employers. I couldn't be married to someone who didn't respect my career but apparently a lot of women on here are.

So it makes “sense” in the short term to prioritize the job with more income, even if it makes very little sense in the long run.

In my experience, this is true even with childfree couples where pregnancy/birth/parenting aren't factors. Super career-focused women are outliers although an out-sized amount of discourse focuses on them.
