Are those wanting to go to Skyview HS primarily the families under South Lakes HS who want to have AP for their kids, or are these the families from Westfield HS who want their kids to avoid longer commutes?

It has something to do with joining VHSL (Virginia High School League)
I would think they are welcome to have after school soccer club, etc.
And, they will still have Physical Education during the school day. Those facilities can be used then--but I doubt they will have swimming available. There is some talk of an academy for lifesaving instruction.
Why would VHSL block them? I’m sure a lot more people would be ok with Skyview if not for lack of VHSL sports. It’s a vital part of the high school experience for many athletes.

I think it’s fair to say Westfield families north of Route 50 and South Lakes families who don’t want IB are the most enthusiastic about Skyview but there are some Oakton families who’d prefer a shorter commute to Skyview and some Chantilly families who’d prefer a less crowded school. It’s not like everyone at a particular school feels the same.
This. From the parents I've talked to in our neighborhood north of 50, the kids who play sports are staying at Westfield while those who don't are moving to Skyview.

Our current 9th grader has already opted in, partly because of a better commute. And what will that commute be? A bus all the way out to Westfield, followed by another bus all the way back to Skyview. Make it make sense.
The transportation costs for all the opt in students to go directly to Skyview from all over the place would be prohibitive, and very long bus rides.
FCPS transportation is one of the most well run offices in FCPS. I'm sure this plan is the best balance of resources for this one year.
I'm not asking for that, especially now that students from all over are opting in. But there has to be a better way. Given that Skyview will start 10 minutes earlier than Westfield I'm not even sure how it's possible to put the Skyview students on the same buses as the Westfield students and get them to school on time.
Oh that part will be fine. The buses arrive very early at Westfield so the kids can get through the security lines.
There's not a better way. If there was, the transportation people would have already thought of it.
If you don't like the plan, you can always get your kid to school using your own resources like many parents do because the buses don't work for them.
One thing I don't understand is what would change between next year and 2027-28, when neighborhoods will be officially within the Skyview boundary but lots of students will still be attending their base schools. Are they going to make those students take a bus to Skyview and a second bus to the base school?
