Some cities/states places constantly complain about people moving there. The whole DC Metro area is so transient that no one here cares if you just moved.

Had an amazing time when we lived in Seattle. They were very friendly and welcoming compared to the Northeast.

We had an opportunity to move to Seattle and the freeze was scary enough to make us not go.

When I first moved here, I found DC extremely unwelcoming. It seemed people were not interested in meeting new people...even people at work seemed to be extremely cliquey and not inclusive (not even a "Hey, we're grabbing lunch. Want to join?" kind of thing....they all just walked past me and out to lunch together.). It was tough.

Anywhere in coastal California from tge greater Bay Area to San Diego. People are used to newcomers and a lot of people are originally from someplace else. Area above Bay Area is more insular but also fewer people in general and isolated.

Not Ohio that’s for damn sure. Went to Ohio to see the eclipse and they treated us like criminals. No welcome party nothing but police telling everybody where we couldn’t park for the 2 hours we were all going to be there. Couldn’t get out of there fast enough

Denver is very welcoming, no one is from there. I think DC is fairly welcoming.

Mount Rainier, MD is exactly like what you described.

DC is easier if you enjoy the status game.
Or, if you have young kids and land on a community minded block.
Or various other kid niche things like they (girls and boys) play ice hockey, or walk to a close elementary school or the auction committee at your independent lets you join the auction committee.
Or, in NOVA, enjoy swim team culture.

Medium to large cities; eg where there are a lot of transplants.

I live in a large town/small city in West Virginia (I know) and have NOT been able to make friends. I thought I could make it work for the COL and other aspects but I cannot imagine spending the next twenty years here. I’m planning to relocate to Frederick/Annapolis/Baltimore County in two years and I can’t wait to get out of this hellhole. (I’m originally from DC but cannot fathom paying current housing prices - kudos to you all.)

Odd. I’ve found Richmond very welcoming, and it too is full of transplants.

DP. Only if you surround yourself with other come-heres. The from-heres aren’t interested.

Cities and suburbs that have experienced strong influx of National migration over the last 10 years. So Dallas, Austin, Denver, Raleigh and surrounding burbs.
