We actually had a very nice elementary school experience and middle school would have been ok but COVID hit so it was a rough time. For the record, we were COVID cautious so we don’t criticize the decision to move to remote. The issue is that HS has been a cluster. We are at Wootton. It’s just been going downhill. I don’t know who to blame. We have had wonderful teachers and mostly nice classmates. But there have been so many days of missed instruction due to the unexpected (gas leak, power outages, water main break) plus there were years of swastikas and then a shooting. And then the complete change in the counseling office this year meant that my child’s schedule was majorly screwed up (and couldn’t be resolved meaning they didn’t get 2 of their planned courses) and it was awful getting transcripts sent. And let’s not forget the drama over moving to Crown. I don’t want to point fingers. I feel like a lot of it is just bad luck. But my older kids both made it through with zero drama. I’m just so tired.
How do you think it got so bad? It's because leadership made bad decisions. Buck stops with leadership in central office.

We moved here for the schools, and I didn't notice how bad it was getting until it was too late. We moved here when 2.0 started. I was willing to give it a chance, but what crap that was. I should've noticed then how terrible MCPS leadership is.
From the F*up curriculum, dumbing things down (50% credit, grade inflation, no finals), changes to magnet programs, now the regional programs, removing SROs while there is an increase in school shootings and other violence, no budget oversight (ebus debacle), shielding a friend from sexual misconduct allegations (I'm talking to you Monifa), stupidly fighting the right for parents to opt out of reading certain books and wasting money on defending the lawsuit...
Just so much crap. So done. Gonna move out of MoCo soon, too. I'm not a MAGA or R, btw. I want to move back to the other blue state that I came from.

I think you covered it all very well here.

Right from the MAGA, right wing and private schools parents play books.
Doubt you ever had a kid in MCPS.
