MCPS then was more like a community school system and less like a massive liability-paranoid corporation focused on documentation.

Nobody I knew even thought about their own or their kid's "resume" for college. Literally I never once had to think about this and just succeeded in a non-transactional way.

Kids were in general much better behaved. They didn't get away with one iota of what passes for "well at least it's not physical!" today, much less assaults.

I loved it.

My issue with my kid in early elementary is all the dumb central office decisions (eg proposing moving the school start date up 3 day with 4 months notice like why would you even contemplate that you dumb fks). And the irritating dishonest messaging through 136 different platforms. I wish central office would just leave me tf alone

So glad to be done. Grateful my oldest got through before the magnets were watered down. My youngest is 2E and it’s been a shit show from day 1.

I don’t know who to blame. We have had wonderful teachers and mostly nice classmates. But there have been so many days of missed instruction due to the unexpected (gas leak, power outages, water main break) plus there were years of swastikas and then a shooting. And then the complete change in the counseling office this year meant that my child’s schedule was majorly screwed up (and couldn’t be resolved meaning they didn’t get 2 of their planned courses) and it was awful getting transcripts sent. And let’s not forget the drama over moving to Crown. I don’t want to point fingers. I feel like a lot of it is just bad luck. But my older kids both made it through with zero drama. I’m just so tired.

How do you think it got so bad? It's because leadership made bad decisions. Buck stops with leadership in central office.

Yes, and as toxically horrible as McKnight was, Taylor is doing worse to the system.

I have the fortune to work with multiple HS interns every summer in the past decades, which give me opportunities to create a large enough “anecdotal” samples across different DMV school districts. NoVA has the best education system overall. This is not just TJ. Other FCPs schools are also pretty solid at preparing well-rounded students. Loudoun county has research dedicated programs to give high schooler numerous opportunities to do all kinds of research for the entire high school life. In Howard county, 2-yr acceleration in math and other subjects happens at every local school in homogeneous class settings.

We started with MCPS in the first year of C2.0 implementation. My older one had the benefits of magnet programs which were not watered down. So it’s especially painful to see my younger one cannot enjoy any of these benefits as MCPS is tearing it down at every level with no intention or action to make local school stronger. We moved to a top ES for my younger one, just found that education experience is not impressive either.

We moved here for the schools, and I didn't notice how bad it was getting until it was too late. We moved here when 2.0 started. I was willing to give it a chance, but what crap that was. I should've noticed then how terrible MCPS leadership is.

From the F*up curriculum, dumbing things down (50% credit, grade inflation, no finals), changes to magnet programs, now the regional programs, removing SROs while there is an increase in school shootings and other violence, no budget oversight (ebus debacle), shielding a friend from sexual misconduct allegations (I'm talking to you Monifa), stupidly fighting the right for parents to opt out of reading certain books and wasting money on defending the lawsuit...

Just so much crap. So done. Gonna move out of MoCo soon, too. I'm not a MAGA or R, btw. I want to move back to the other blue state that I came from.

Yup. Totally agree

I think you covered it all very well here.

I forgot one.. moving violent students around the different schools leading to more victims.

DC has a few weeks left of school. They also can't wait to be done with MCPS. My other kid had no problem with MCPS, but then, that kid went through the magnet programs before MCPS leadership started dicking around with it.

Right from the MAGA, right wing and private schools parents play books.
Doubt you ever had a kid in MCPS.

I had two kids go through MCPS. Have never sent my kid to tutoring, private school, hate Trump with every fiber of my being. Seriously thinking of also leaving this country soon. Gun violence is out of control, and yet MCPS and county leadership think it's a good idea to remove SROs in schools. My kid went through two lockdowns; they were very scared.

You're a fool and/or probably an MCPS apologist/employee.
