My kids have September, October, and March birthdays.

March has been better for things like school cutoffs and sports. Birthday is at the end of March which is always spring break where we live (sometimes it's the Monday after).

My September 1 kid was always one of the youngest because we sent him on time (9/30 birthday cutoff). Preschool teachers said we could go either way. He was always academically advanced but in retrospect struggled a little socially. When he tried lacrosse one year he was with younger kids because that cutoff was the end of August and they wouldn't let him play "up" with his classmates. Ended up doing a gap year after high school.

End of October kid is always one of the oldest in class. Will be driving early sophomore year. Was young for soccer but worth the change from birth year to school year cutoff dates will now be one of the oldest.

Just letting you know - you can't control when your kids are born. You can plan it all you want...but fertility issues, loss, premature births, all happen. Fantasizing about a specific birth month or season will just lead to disappointment, especially if you're trying to do it with another 4 kids.

She may not love the idea of a late October birthday now, but I bet she changes her tune once the baby is here and that date/month/season is fundamentally changed for her for the rest of her life. What ever date it is will be a special day forever forward.

Can have parties outside and my DD's bday is May 15, which is the peak date of my garden
Maternity leave over the summer
Bulky sweaters in the winter to cover big belly. Also, no being 9 months pregnant in the DC summer heat.

I wanted a spring baby for nice spring walks, longer days during maternity leave, and to avoid being heavily pregnant during the hot summer months.

Due date was late March. Perfect. Except baby came very early and was born mid-February. Baby’s great now.

Basically you can’t plan for these things.

I tried to time a baby to maximize maternity leave (I'm a teacher, I wanted an April/May baby).

Conceived, due late april, fantastic.

Baby came 7 weeks early.

You can only plan so much. I love my March 1 12 year old, even if it sucks for his chosen sport and winter birthdays don't lend themselves for outdoor celebrations.

I thought October was a great month, school wise and the weather is still nice, but her problem is that it’s late in the year, but she doesn’t like summer months due to the school issue. But I think she’ll get it over eventually.

Your wife sounds more reasonable about this than they did.

Speaking from experience, January is the worst. A lot of people basically hibernate in January and recover from Christmas/NYE. Dry January is also a thing, which can limit adult birthday parties too. As a kid you're already overwhelmed with toys from Christmas.

You married this woman. This is going to be a personality trait that you just have to go along with. She is pregnant so a bit crazy and hormonal anyway. Just nod your head in agreement when she starts in on the crazy talk.
