Our capitalist system uses psychological manipulations and peer pressure to enforce a rigid ideal where generating profit and consuming more, more, more is the only “respectable” path to take in life. Our movies, tv and music reinforce that ideal while corporations use advertising to make us feel bad for loving a quiet simple life. Twisting this level of intentional manipulation is almost impossible for any human. OP is a victim to this machine so go easy on her.

I've done that. Now I Netflix and chill. I'm 46. Maybe in 10 years I'll do something else. I'd like to learn how to drive a horse buggy.

Lol We just moved and my DH keeps making friends with our new neighbors and want to invite them over. I’m loving that we are sort of anonymous in our new empty nester neighborhood.

How do you have so much free time at such a young age?

Not OP, but what is young? I am 54 work full time from home but I’m an empty nester. So no reason to leave - i workout 3/4x a week and walk everyday but pretty much bored 430 - 9pm (in a good way) otherwise. Today I took a very long walk and sat on my back porch listening to birds until DH went out for an early dinner.

Dude, until my incredibly complex kids are out of the house (maybe never for one), Netflix and chill is my dream. Dull is better than mental breakdown. Live it up.

Tell us your ways. This is my ideal lifestyle.

I'm oddly comforted by that.

But lately I just don't have the urge for socializing. The past year has been epically terrible for several reasons, so maybe I'll come out of it. Or not!

Me too....I often wonder if it is also has to do with this timeline....we are seeing how evil some people can be. It's nice to be at home.

I feel this also. If you add in the increase in cost in restaurant dining since the pandemic and now current politics I look at my house as an escape from all that is terrible on the outside.

Not OP, but I don't work for money. I have dividends from my stock portfolio, and lots of free time.

Sounds perfect. I’m in a similar boat. Even though I’m an extrovert I find that these days I don’t have the energy to put into my relationships and have developed a strong preference for being a homebody.

I dream of the day I have time to garden and do puzzles. At the rate I'm going, I'll probably be in my 80s before I have a chance.
