Yes, and I feel confident there is dating going on at all colleges. Much of our perspectives stem from our own kids and their friend group which is only a snapshot. My son dated from the start and is in a relationship this year. Their friend group is the same. I am certain there are also plenty in the hook up or no dating category too, just not their circle. They go to Brown, somewhere along the way I read there is a high marriage rate amongst students.

Both of my boys have serious girlfriends. They both go to top 20 schools south of the Mason Dixon line, where I think real dating is much more normalized than in the rest of the country.

We'll see if the relationships survive graduation. My personal feeling is this is too young to settle into a life partnership. Even though the girlfriends are lovely, wonderful young women. But lets wait some years.

Two in different colleges - sounds like the ones dating are from boarding schools, estranged from their family for other reasons, international students. Basically the lonely ones. The other students are wrapped up in friends, clubs, classes, work, finding internships etc.

Yes at Amherst (Coll not umass). Lots of freshman couples, especially athletes.

Yes, Vanderbilt. Actual relationships are the goal and norm (vs. hookups) are the norm in DS’s social circles. He is not part of the ultra intense engineering or pre-med life FWIW

OP, what is it you actually want to know? Whether it’s common for students to be in traditional dating relationships or not? Because of course some students at any given college are dating.
