Our VT DC had no issues whatsoever moving off campus sophomore year with three friends. There are lots of great neighborhoods available.

I have a kid at W & M but not Tech. I can't help you. It might be rare to find someone who has both.

In the past years, William and Mary has provided on campus housing to every student who has wanted it. There was a waitlist for next year that wasn't expected, but the new dorms have been very popular. All waitlist students were placed quickly and all students now have on campus housing who wanted it. My senior son actually decided to stay on campus for his last year. Newly renovated dorm with a private bath.
