My son would share photos if I asked. He wouldn’t think to take any of a dance, but he would ask one of the girls to send him some and forward them.

He shows me plenty of other funny photos and videos all of the time of things they take. Way more than DD. I still say ask your son and do what he wants you to do.

This isn't about photos of the dance. Before the dance, many teens choose to go somewhere, whether it's the home of one of their friends, or someplace they stop at on the way to the dance, specifically to take pictures. Usually, there are group pictures of everyone, of all the boys, of all the girls, and of couples. The boys may not be the organizers, and they may only go because their date wants to go, but they are definitely there and in the pictures.

If you were invited, go. If not it’s weird to show up at someone’s house. Prom send offs are a big thing in some groups and they are invitation events.

Don't go and you will be the only family who doesn't have a parent there. That's how things roll in our NoVa suburb. Parents may be out of town or can't come for some reason, but showing up is the most common - no matter what their kid has said about coming

The parents generally all go. The hosting family should have made that welcome clear. It would be super odd and rude for hosting parents not to welcome other parents for photos.

You think wrong. Everytime we hosted, parents came too and they took pics, and some also ran the vanpool to drop the kids to the event. No invite needed.

This and do what your son wants either way. Back in the 90s I didn’t have my parents come for my senior prom photos when I was getting ready at a friend’s house! We were all just going as friends and they didn’t need to make a big deal about it. It was my prom, not theirs. I showed them photos later. Take your kid’s lead on what to do.
