I wear Brooks Glycerin for running and recently started wearing Brooks Cascadia for trail shoes too - not enough support in my beloved Salomon's Speedcross anymore. I wear Taos sneakers and Born sandals mainly. Though you didn't ask - OLUKAI flip flops are wonderful.

He would rather spend $400 on shoes than on your special needs kid??

I’ve been wearing only Norda shoes for the past year. They’re not as low profile and “cute” as adidas sambas etc but they’re extremely functional and more low profile than a cushiony running shoe due to being made out of Dyneema. I have 3 pairs.

Not at all. We’re very comfortable, but I wear a lot of used clothing to have money for things that would otherwise be out of reach. DH makes a good salary and a more rational woman would probably use her budget to pay for haircuts, new shoes, etc.

Why do you need “fixing up” in a way only new clothes will do? What kind of thrifted clothes are you buying?

Agreed with others that for a domestic desert location in the summer I’d go with sandals instead of sneakers. If I needed to get sneakers, Allbird “tree” sneakers are the coolest and most breathable comfortable sneakers I’ve found. The pipers are cute and similar to the vionics mentioned above. I also like the runners, which are a bit bulkier but also more supportive.

Assuming this isn’t a troll post…. If I had a Nordstrom gift card, I would go buy Cole Haan shoes. Their sneakers are comfortable and cute and with a $400 budget you could either get two pair or a sneaker and a sandal.

Someone mentioned Vejas earlier but I find them wildly uncomfortable.

He’s a computer scientist and I am in a technical field. I simply get more utility from home decor or therapy for my special needs kid than I do from beautiful clothing. The calculus was different when I was younger and my weight was more stable.

I don't wear Brooks but I have tons of foot and ankle issues. Sometimes I wear white Taos with dresses. They aren't as good as the Saucony I usually wear, but they are better than flats.

I wear Brooks wide ghost sneakers with Superfeet insoles. I have high arches. I like Ecco sneakers, Alo sneakers and Onitsuka Tigers. My Sambas are nice for errands but not quite wide enough on one foot for heavy walking.
