Until now, I've only heard of polyamory with 3 people where it benefitted the husband more than the wife and promptly ended when he tried to leave her for one of the women. They somehow are still married.
Maybe top guy is bisexual or impotent hence other guy and then his girl were brought in. Lot of creepy set ups in the world.

What matters most is that that child is loved. There are so many foster children and children who are in group homes, or in homes where they are neglected. Those are the people we should judge the most.
I am personally open to polyamory, not exactly this dynamic but honestly it would be kind of nice having 4 people to help raise a child, especially as a bi woman it would be kind of fun. The kids may have a different viewpoint on life than you want them to have, but they will be okay and will make their own choices as adults as to what they want their family to look like.
I agree that polyamory seems nice in principle. Unfortunately the only way humans seem to be able to do it without being messy, is if, men (and religion) are in complete of the power structure of the relationship.

It's okay to think it is weird. It is also okay to not understand and MYOB. If you are close enough friends with these people you will ultimately find out more information.

I don’t know, but I’d just say “congratulations” & otherwise MYOB.
I had a friend in college who was raised in a different environment. Not sure what they called it, especially at that time, but it was basically 2 husband-wife legally married couples who raised 4 kids together. The moms each had 2 pregnancies but not sure whose bio dad was whose (did not ask). They all lived together & all kids considered all the adults “their parents”. Friend said the adults…ahem..shared intimacy etc. She confessed all of this to me one time while drunk lol. One set of parents made the more “public” appearances for each kid and the others presented as close family friends. We are not THAT old (nearing 50) but things were different even then.
Friend was always happy and well adjusted. Still is. Successful, happily married etc.
