In 2024-25, 4% of students scored a 5 (highest score) on the Math CAPE and 8% scored a 5 on the ELA CAPE so there is a small cohort of high achievers (and another 25% scored 4s in each subject). In 2024, a student from MacFarland won the DC spelling bee (beating a BASIS student). One of the 2025 graduates was named 2026 DC Youth Poet Laureate. There have been students who are in Washington Youth Orchestra and who sing opera.
