This is important. I like my Hair Cuttery top tier stylist, but when I sent my kids to just anyone there one of them came home with a completely ragged, uneven cut.

Oh, that didn't even occur to me, but yeah, it might make more sense that OP is a man given they said their "barber" originally cut their hair.

Anyway the price doesn't seem that weird? I had to go get my bangs trimmed at Hair Cuttery last minute like 15 years ago and it was about $20 so I don't think the $35-40 range for a haircut in 2026 is that weird.

I can't imagine a womens haircut that needs to be cut every 5 weeks. I have always had shoulder length or longer hair and go 3-6 months between haircuts. There are salons that specialize in quality cuts and color that allow you to visit less often. Look for a stylist that specializes in lived-in color, which is a technique for blending coloring that avoids a harsh transition line as your hair grows out. It's literally a styling technique that allows for less frequent salon visits and I've seen many salons advertising this. You'll likely find that the stylist is sympathetic for helping you find a new style that will look good for 2-3 months or longer. It will cost more but you'll waste less of your life sitting in Hair Cuttery!
