What often happens is that these students
ED or SCEA elsewhere, don't get in and then apply ED2, EA or even RD to Chicago.
It's viewed as a pretty secure option for private school kids who want a top school.

Chicago is taking a lot of unhooked kids from top private schools across the country. It’s not just a Sidwell phenomenon, it’s probably just that students there realized it was realistic and applied ED this year. It’s the most common school for Exeter & usually Andover graduating classes nowadays too.

Great school but college shouldn't be high school part 2. I know it is a decent sized school but you still want to get away from HS people.

Horace Mann in NYC has been sending tons of kids there lately - a few years ago it was well over 20 and I think I saw that it is very high again this year.

Great school but college shouldn't be high school part 2. I know it is a decent sized school but you still want to get away from HS people.

Yes. Our DC never expressed any interest, but received a mailer almost weekly starting in 10th grade.

My kid got a book from Yale but never in a million years would’ve gotten in. Also got frequent emails from MIT. This isn’t unique to Chicago, though they do market heavily.

Question about Chicago - my 10th grade DC is getting tons of emails and physical recruiting mailings from Chicago. Almost more than any other school. She is a good student but not competitive for Ivy League or Chicago. Why does Chicago send so much recruiting to kids who don’t meet their grades/scores? Is it to bulk up the number of applications so admissions rates et even more selective?

NYC private schools send droves to Chicago. Trinity HM Dalton Spence Chapin even Fieldston. They are not necessarily the top students at these schools. 3.5, 3.6 have a good shot at ED. Unlikely at ivies with these grades.
