No one, of any gender, has to walk through life maximizing their attractiveness for others. We aren't mere objects for strangers or potential dates or even our spouses to gaze upon.

OP here. Yes, I plan to maintain my looks well into old age. Nowadays totally possible. Jane Fonda looked better at 70 than at 35.

I have never been able to settle, not just on looks but also chemistry.
That is why I never married (ie, I dated tons of dependable, nice guys …but if I was not passionate about sleeping with them, I could not fathom sharing a bed with them for a lifetime).

It’s the same for me! I used to be very accepting in terms of looks, just no extra weight please. Now I am only into really fit men and I think it’s because my libido is lower due to perimenopause. It’s like some older men can only be turned on by better looking/younger women.

OP here. When I was young I had low self-esteem. I was poor, so even though I was attractive, I didn't play it up. I have accepted a man who was crazy about me but not vice-versa.

Yes it would, and it would be fair and right to do so. It's basic biology--There is asymmetric attractiveness between the sexes: most women are attractive to most men, while most men are not attractive to most women.
