You need to go see an excellent child psychiatrist to help your child understand the benefits of medication and get your child on board. Medication changes everything and unfortunately, with OCD, medication is lifelong. But it works! And having OCD doesn't feel great but the medicine takes that ocd like discomfort away. No amount of therapy will be beneficial without medication too.
Mine was on a high dose of SSRI, during which time they were in intensive ERP therapy. They’ve now tapered the SSRI to a low dose.
My kid also went to community college and is planning to transfer to a 4 year college. Kid just needed a couple of extra years at home.
It was a rough several years, but I think my kid will be so more well prepared for college life having worked through many mental health challenges. For one, they know when to ask for help.
