Articles are saying the worst times are before 8am and after 3pm.
Fwiw before 8am seems to be the busiest time at most airports.

Travelers had to wait in line for hours just to make it to a counter. Plan accordingly if you have a flight this weekend.
But why would the lines to the airline counters be affected by the closures of the security checkpoint? That seems like two seperate issues. IME BWI is always mobbed at spring break, especially Southwest.
Presumably because everyone is trying to get there early, creating a crush of humanity?
This
The media succeeded in creating hysteria and now everyone is arriving super-duper early and creating a frenzied long line.
I hope this gets sorted by next week when I need to travel.
The media reported factual information. I’m not sure what you are suggesting.
The bill to pay tsa has passed senate and is now in the house. This is their last day in session for a while, they get a break over holidays. So it won’t get sorted unless the republicans see sense and do the right thing.

NYT also has a tracker for most airports and it’s regularly updated. If you filter for Pre, waits are minimal or nonexistent, even places like Houston.
These lines you are seeing are for people without Pre.
Unless something changed, precheck has not been open in Houston. DH has both precheck and even signed up a trial for Clear but couldn'tuse either, so it was a 4.5 hr wait the other day.
