This Noem perjury investigation may be a tipping point. Either she could go to jail for perjury or Trump lied. Which will it be? His whole administration needs to look at this and decide whether he is worth going to jail for.

You're not missing anything, so stop asking the question. It's the wrong thing to focus on. The reality is that he has a small amount of unwavering support. There is no line in the sand for them. You don't need to understand it just because, but also because we don't need them. Spend your time, energy, and $$ doing something productive.

I'm seeing this with my evangelical parents. When I ask my mom how they can still support Trump she says, "I don't like what he says but I like what he's doing." I think they feel he's been sent by God to protect Christians and make the US a Christian nation again. While she hasn't said it, I think they see him hastening the apocalypse/second coming. We don't really discuss politics much these days, as I've realized there is no getting through to them.

NP here. Trump is an avatar for MAGA's anger and ultimately, disappointment in the outcome of their lives. He gives them someone to blame for their failures other than themselves. He's a way for them to attack groups they enjoy blaming for their failures. I don't think there's much else to it. The bigger picture means nothing to them-- the loss of jobs, the theft and grift, the war in Iran, etc. They're not concerned about that, especially his elderly supporters who are already pretty comfortable with their pensions. The rest of us can go to hell (and those supporters won't be here to see the fallout, anyway). For his younger supporters, it's schadenfreude. They love seeing the educated suffer. Nothing would please them more than watching a former federal worker with a PhD stocking groceries for minimum wage.

But to add. The bodybags coming home from Iran will break support among MAGA. Right now they are not paying any price for supporting Trump.
You notice that at soon as one of Trump’s actions affect a Trump supporter that support disappears.
The gas prices will result in the first crack, then the bodybags (combined with the fact that Trump will lose interest in going to dignified transfer ceremonies), then the economic depression. Unfortunately we will all suffer along with MAGA.
All those body bags coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan didn’t dent military support for the GOP.

Plus a constant low-level racism all day everyday. The trumpers around me are not uneducated and are not unsuccessful. But they are racists. They don't seem to know any immigrants but for some reason they hate them. To the point that they are willing to tolerate this destruction as long as DHS beats on immigrants. It's really hard to understand. They have a huge ignorant blind spot when it comes to immigrants.

This is something thats been in balance for over two decades and was near zero threat to the US. Ever wonder why previous presidents haven’t gone in and “defanged” Iran? Because its a terrible move and huge mess geopolitically: The US gets mired down in a conflict that it can’t pull out of. It pulls in military resources and tons of capital so that the US doesn’t have the ability project force in other parts of the world.
If you look at the way that world super powers have failed in the last century (most notably the Soviet Union and Germany) its by getting mired down in extended conflicts that their economy can’t support.
The US economy and economic system is very much a house of cards (spiraling debt, inflation, etc), especially after the erratic leadership on tarrifs.
Between his economic leadership, alienating trade partners, alienating NATO, releasing sanctions on Russia and causing social grassfires - its almost like he’s not working for US.
