It’s up to your kids how they want to respond. Be a supportive presence for them but don’t get involved.

If he is a decent guy, perhaps he is having guilt issues.
As he should!!
Hopefully he isn’t after money or anything like that.
I would have a tough time forgiving a Father who abandoned me in lieu of being w/a new family.

My bet is that he is having turbulent times in his new relationship. So he will pursue reconciliation with his children while he casts about for a new partner before the pattern repeats.

His adult kids don't have to act like nothing happened. They can be honest with him and tell him how they feel and how it felt when he ignored them. If there is a possibility of a relationship for them going forward I think it would depend on how those conversations go.

At any rate, any chance at a relationship with a parent should be taken. The pain of a hole where a parent should be is indescribable.
Sorry for your pain.
Trying to stuff a neglectful or uncaring or abusive parent into the hole is worse and adds pain.

He needs something from them. He’ll disappear again when the next shiny object show up. If your kids want to rekindle the relationship then they should be wary and not have any expectations.
