We aren’t “supposed to get” tornadoes. There is a slight chance.
But for a person traveling tomorrow with an itinerary that includes a connecting flight, and a departure time that is at the peak for when severe weather
might occur, it’s rational to weigh the impacts of a ground delay on making their subsequent flight. So OP has decide which is worse. Taking an earlier flight and having a longer layover. Or, risking their 4PM flight getting delayed and missing their connecting flight.
