This is going to invert though now that Travilah and Potomac will go to Cabin John and Stone Mill will shift to Hoover. Cabin John is about to become deep Potomac + Travilah horse country manors and estates while simultaneously losing its North Potomac segment.

I mean, the N Potomac segment going to CJ never really made sense. It looks just like a gerrymandered map.

I think CJ and Hoover so close together doesn't make sense.

Agreed. One of those buildings should have been rebuilt somewhere to the West of the current location, but it’s too late now since they were both rebuilt recently.

School greatness depends on TEACHERS, not the school itself

On the other hand, Cabin John chorus is pretty amazing. I've seen both because my kid is now at Churchill and MSs join some concerts. There's not comparison. CJ chorus went to some national invitational in Rhode Island this winter.

During the COVID era, Hoover had very poor music teachers. However, starting in 2024, they hired a fantastic orchestra teacher who also works with MCYO. This year, he took the students to perform at Carnegie Hall and to see a Broadway show. All the kids had a blast with him.

I was going to ask about the orchestra program. How competitive is it at Hoover?

How do you check if address will be affected by boundary study?

Both are great schools and are going to have significant changes to their feeder patterns in two years so I'd pick based on other things personally. We're at Cabin John and have friends at Hoover and they are very similar from what I can tell.

I’d personally index more on the HS your child would be going to - there’s a lot of changes going on with boundaries so make sure the addresses you’re looking at aren’t affected. They’re both amazing schools, and MCPS doesn’t really invest heavily in the middle school level.
