You realize that no one group is a monolith, right? "Military" men aren't all the same. Marines aren't all the same. Even captains aren't all the same. Surely, at age 40, you've figured that out before?

Anyway, we are very close friends with a lot Captains and Admirals in the Marines and the Navy and some of them are the most upstanding men I've ever met in my life and some of them are complete messes. These are all Naval Academy or West Point graduates, all either still in or retired after 25+ years.

I'm marred to a retired marine. He's intelligent, caring, values integrity. He has some rigidity but can compromise if we really sit down and discuss options a pros and cons. He does not do spontaneous anything. And he's a great dad. But he joined as an officer after an LAC undergrad. Many of his military friends that we spend time with have the same profile. These aren't grunts, they have a strong sense of purpose and patriotism and know history and philosophy etc etc.

Actually.... no. You can't. You can't guarantee any such thing.

A friend of mine is married to a really great “ex” marine who got out during Trump 1. He is everything you listed and more and a great dad. But has very serious PTSD that weighs on the family. I can guarantee you this guy has never done anything with ladies or the night and have known him at this point for 20 years…
