(Not in DC) but just did a full bathroom for just about 20k. Ripped out builder grade tub/shower combo and turned it into a shower only with tile to the ceilings (10 ft ceilings).
Labor and those associated materials: 11k (schulte board, plumbing things, waterproofing things, etc)
I spent about 9k on tile, vanity, toilet, fixtures, mirror, artwork, misc (hooks, TP holder, etc).

About to do the master and I’m hoping I can get it done for about 26k total. Less tile (I think?) but vanity will be a 72 inch and new tub, toilet, etc.

$20k is very doable especially if you are flexible on materials and not looking for the tippy top premium everything.

We just got several quotes for a small powder room and a small full bath, replacing everything including new doors and adding a recessed light:

#1: 50k including materials (but basic stuff, nothing fancy)
#2: 18k for labor and we provide materials
#3: 13k for labor but we buy materials through their store so probably more than buying ourselves

Also floor and decor. eBay for faucets. Restore. Shop around. We did one bath down to studs for 22 in 2023 and a new one in 2025 this way. Both 21-24 each.

I was quoted $30K labor for a gut that involved moving toilet and vanity and taking down a wall to make a 6 x 10 bathroom with a walk-in shower and double vanity. No heated floors and tile only on floor, behind vanity and in shower surround.

OP here. Thanks for the responses. My hope was in the $15K to $20k range. Some of the answers seem outlandish but I know every situation is different. If i can't do it for less than $30K, it's not going to happen.

I got a 100k quote. It's the size of a small bedroom. It has tile halfway up the wall, a standalone bidet, two story ceilings, one of those built in jacuzzi tubs (plus a shower). It's frankly super weird. But we're keeping it because we're not about to drop 50k-100k to make the bathroom aesthetically normal.

We did rather large-ish master bath (12x15) and came out at pretty much exactly $50k. Contractor quoted $40k or so and then we bought marble tile and some of the other fixtures and it came to $50k all-in. Our finishes were in the mid-range. If we had gone for higher-end marble tile (our marble tile was from Floor & Decor) it would have probably been $65k.
